Law firm websites

Law firm web design for Canadian practices

Law firm web design builds a website around how people actually choose a lawyer: a page for every practice area, plain-English writing, real lawyer bios, an easy way to make contact. It loads fast on a phone. It makes the next step obvious. We build these for firms across Canada, from British Columbia.

Every build is a custom law firm website, shaped around your practice areas. The firm owns it.

A page for every practice area, not one Services page.

What a law firm website should actually do for your practice

Most law firm websites are built to look respectable. Respectable is easy. Useful brings you a file. A site that isn’t getting clients reads like it was written for other lawyers, and makes an anxious person work to reach you. Good web design for lawyers is writing and structure.

Getting found — Google Maps, AI answers, rankings — is a separate job, covered on our page about search work for law practices.

Four things to check today.

What pages does a law firm website need?

Fewer than most firms expect. Good law firm website design starts with the page list, not the pictures. Every page answers one question a worried person is already asking. No question, no page.

Good legal website design is ordering those pages well and cutting the rest. A website for law firms rarely fails on a missing page. It fails because the pages it has never make a stranger sure they are in the right place. Wider view: how websites, search and listings work together for a practice.

A law firm website structure that works

One page per practice area, written so a non-lawyer understands it

Nobody arrives wanting a lawyer in general. They arrive with one problem: a separation, a will, a house purchase gone wrong, a charge. A Services page listing eight areas makes that person sort it out themselves, on the worst day of their year. A practice area page does the sorting, so they call.

One page about one thing beats one page about eight in search, too.

Sahara Law Corporation — the firm we built in Abbotsford

Already have a site that works?

We also run these on their own: SEO at $397 – $1,000 a month, or automation at $1,500 – $2,500 to set up, then $250 – $450 a month.

Ask about a standalone plan

What’s in every package

Package 3 is the one we lead with. Google Business Profile work is in every package, and it stays in for as long as we’re working together.

Why the range

The number moves with page count, whether we’re rebuilding, and which services are in scope.

Law firm web design costs $1,000 to $1,500 for the website on its own. Adding search work makes it $1,500 to $2,500 to build, then $397 to $1,000 a month. The complete system — website, search work, and the automation that answers calls and captures intake — runs $2,500 to $5,000, with a $700 to $1,200 monthly plan. Page count decides where you land.

Most law firm website cost figures online are American, and far higher. Different market, different overhead. Ours is lower because we work from British Columbia and price on the size of the site, not your practice.

What changes the price

Two firms can ask for the same thing and get different numbers back. Five things move the price, and you can place yourself before you speak to us.

Send us those five answers and we price it properly instead of guessing. Send your page list and practice areas.

Do you need a new site, or can the one you have be fixed?

Not every firm needs to start over. Sometimes your site is fine and the money belongs elsewhere. Modern law firm website design is less about a new look than about whether the site does its job.

Mostly second list? Fix the weak parts rather than rebuild. One exception: a redesign run alongside search work, because moving pages is the moment to sort out their names.

Platform is a fit decision, not a quality one. WordPress, Squarespace and a custom-coded build can all carry a law firm site. The question is who touches it after launch. Want to post a notice yourself? WordPress usually wins. Want the fastest site, with us handling changes? Custom-coded wins. We build both.

Signs it is time for a law firm website redesign

  • Practice areas buried, or in language a worried client cannot follow
  • Pages hang for seconds before anything appears
  • It does not work properly on a phone
  • Nobody can update it without paying a developer
  • It looks like a template, and so do a dozen other firms’ in your city
  • A visitor could wonder whether you still practise

Signs the site you have is worth keeping

  • It loads quickly and reads well on a phone
  • Each practice area already has its own page, with real content
  • You or your assistant can change a paragraph without help
  • The look is plain but current
  • Phone number, address and contact form go to the right place

Law firm web design examples: the site we built, and what to look at

We have built one law firm website: Sahara Law Corporation in Abbotsford, BC. One real example, shown whole. The Sahara Law Corporation website rebuild has the write-up; the live site is saharalawcorp.ca.

What was built: a page per practice area — six of them — plus a Google Business Profile and business listings. It runs on WordPress, because the principal wanted to update his own content. Search work runs month to month.

  1. Practice areas named on the homepage

a visitor sees family, criminal, real estate, wills and estates, immigration and notary services without scrolling far.

  2. One page per practice area

each label links to its own page, not to an anchor further down.

  3. Phone and contact reachable on a phone

tap-to-call in the header, contact details repeated at the bottom.

  4. Plain-language explanations

practice areas described the way a worried client would say them, not in statute language.

What to look for in law firm website examples

There is no single best law firm website design. Ask four things of any lawyer website design: can I tell in five seconds what this firm does, can I find my own problem, can I reach a human from my phone, does it read like a person wrote it. Law firm website best practices sit underneath those.

One message tells you where your own firm stands.

What happens to private information, and who can use your site?

Two questions almost nobody asks a web designer. What a stranger types into your contact form. Whether every visitor can use the site.

How law firm web design actually runs, and what we need from you

Our law firm web design services run in five steps. Most of the law firm website development happens in the middle. Your time goes into the two ends: the page list, and the words.

  1. 1

Scope call — free. We agree the page list, the practice areas, and what has to be written. The price comes after this call.

  2. 2

Content and structure — every practice area mapped to its own page, then written in plain English.

  3. 3

Design and build — layout, then the site: mobile first, fast, forms and booking wired up.

  4. 4

Your review — you mark what has to change. Nothing publishes until you sign off.

  5. 5

Launch and 30 days of fixes — the site goes live, small fixes included for a month.

What we need from you

  • Names, photos and short backgrounds for each lawyer
  • Your practice areas, and what you handle in each
  • Content that exists already — old site text, brochures, intake sheets
  • One person who can give a yes or no
  • A couple of hours to read and approve pages

How long it takes is set at the scope call, because it depends on the page count and whether your content exists. A real date beats a guess. More on the way we run a project from scope to launch.

After launch: what you own, and what keeps working

When the job ends, the site is yours, not rented from us, not locked to us.

Who this is for, and who it isn’t

We do website design for lawyers running small practices across Canada. IshaanEx Digital is a British Columbia–based web design and internet marketing provider run by Harman Chahal.

A solo site and a five-lawyer site need the same structure underneath. What makes small law firm website design different is who decides. One person usually does, so the work moves quickly. That is what we mean by law office website design: one or two offices, a few practice areas, nobody in-house doing marketing.

Website design for small law firms only works when the firm takes part.

A good fit

This is a good fit if:

  • You are a firm of one to ten lawyers, or practise alone. Website design for solo lawyers is a large part of this work
  • You have more than one practice area and want each explained, not listed in a dropdown
  • Your current site was built years ago, or by someone who never worked with a law firm
  • Someone can give a few hours to reading and approving pages
  • You want some pages in a second language — Punjabi alongside the English
Probably not us

So probably not for you if:

  • You want a template filled in at the lowest price — a website builder does that cheaper
  • Nobody has time to answer questions or read a draft
  • You want the site published without the firm reviewing the wording
  • You want a guaranteed position on Google — we do not guarantee rankings, and neither should anyone
  • You need advice on what your firm may say in advertising — that comes from your counsel

Recognised your own firm in the first list? That is the conversation worth having.

How do you choose a web designer for a law firm?

Ask the same questions of every website designer for law firms you shortlist. The answers separate quickly. How to choose a law firm web designer comes down to whether they can describe your build before you pay. If they can’t, they are pricing a guess.

Our numbers are further up this page. Any law firm web design agency should give you a range on a first call. Be as wary of the quote with no ceiling — a legal website design agency that quotes before asking how many practice areas you run is guessing. Send your site, page list and practice areas, and we’ll price it in writing.

Questions to ask any law firm website design company

  1. Who actually does the work? Is the person on the call building it, or is it handed on?
  2. Can you write down my page list before I pay? A real scope names every page — home, each practice area, bios, contact. Not “up to 10 pages”.
  3. Who writes the words? Content is where most builds stall. Ask who writes it.
  4. What is not included? A law firm website with online booking, or with intake form routing, is an extra somewhere. So is photography. Find out where.
  5. What happens if I want to leave? Who holds the domain, the hosting login and the files?
  6. How many law firm sites have you built, and can I see one? Ask us too. One — Sahara Law Corporation, named up this page, with the live site and review to check.
  7. What does this cost, and why that number? A price with no scope tells you nothing.

Common questions about law firm websites

How much does a law firm website cost in 2026?

The website alone is $1,000 to $1,500. Add search work and it is $1,500 to $2,500 to build, then $397 to $1,000 a month. The complete system is $2,500 to $5,000 with a $700 to $1,200 monthly plan. Page count moves the range, not a sales conversation.

Is $1,500 a good price for a website?

For a small Canadian firm, yes — the top of our range, and a real build rather than a template fill-in. What makes $1,500 a bad price is nobody telling you which pages it includes. Ask for the page list first.

How much does it cost to design a website for lawyers?

Same answer as above. American sites call this attorney web design, or attorney website design; in Canada the word is lawyer, same job. The build price covers design, writing help and launch. Getting found is separate: rankings, AI answers and Google Maps are search work.

Can ChatGPT actually create a website?

It can produce something that looks like one. It cannot decide which practice areas deserve their own page, or write about a family matter in words a worried person understands. The same limit applies to the best website builder for lawyers and to law firm website templates — they solve the layout, not the thinking.

How do I explain to my partners the value of a custom website?

Point at what a template cannot copy: a page per practice area, written the way your clients describe their problem, and an enquiry path built around how your firm takes files. The comparison to put to partners is this site against the enquiries the current one is losing.

Is website design really difficult for lawyers and law firms because of legal issues?

Not difficult, but the care goes into where the wording lands. Your law firm website disclaimer, and the notice that reading the site does not create a solicitor-client relationship, both need a spot a reader will actually reach, in plain words.

How much does a firm spend each month on website hosting?

Usually a small amount, and a bill you can see, because the account is in the firm’s name. There is no compulsory fee to us after launch. A care plan is optional, and legal web design without one works fine if someone at the firm makes the small edits. More on our FAQ page.

I hired IshaanEx Digital for the full web design and local SEO work on my Paws by the River business — and working with Harman directly was the easiest part of starting up. He met the deadline and delivered the website on time. We met in person to talk through what I wanted, and he came to the table with ideas I had not even thought of. The Google Business Profile optimization is what got me into the Map Pack for dog walking in Chilliwack, and the calls have been coming in steadily ever since. The website is fast, and I have access to make changes whenever I need. Would highly recommend IshaanEx Digital to any small business owner looking for a real partner instead of an agency that disappears after launch.

I hired IshaanEx Digital to rebuild the DELANA Interiors website after my old site stopped working. We met in person multiple times with Harman, the founder — which mattered to me, I wanted to know who I was working with. He handled the full web design rebuild and then took on the local SEO work that followed. He took the time to understand what I do: kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation, basement renovation, and custom projects across Metro Vancouver. The SEO work from IshaanEx Digital has us ranking on the first page of Google in West Vancouver — including #1 in the Map Pack for kitchen renovation, which I never thought possible against the bigger contractors out here. Harman is honest, transparent, and treats the work like it is his own.
